Fire Safety in Housing

There have been extensive changes in both Housing Law and Fire Safety Law over the past two years. If you are a regulator or provider responsible for fire safety in flats and apartments, houses in multiple occupation, supported housing or shared housing then you should make sure you know about the new legislation and how to ensure your premises are safe.

New national guidance on how to comply with the law and make your premises safe from fire was published on 23 July in a joint venture by LACORS, the National Landlords Association, The Chief Fire Officers' Association and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. The guidance is fully supported by the Government.

This is the culmination of two years work by all stakeholders to help ensure that the complex fire safety and housing legislation is applied fairly, proportionately and consistently.
